Oil Pulling - Why You Need To Try It

Oil Pulling, you may have heard about it and thought hard, how can one pull oil? Why would anyone try this? You heard it from me, I am totally hooked to oil pulling, its a natural way that you can take care of your oral health and overall general well-being with one easy step. I actually do this daily and enjoy the motion and quietness of oil pulling and hope you can also reap health benefits too – so simple.

What Is Oil Pulling?

Oil Pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic traditional remedy, which originated in India thousands of years ago. It is a fantastic oral detoxification procedure that is simply done by swishing a tablespoon of oil in your mouth. The process is harmless, very inexpensive and some of the benefits are not only whiter teeth but better oral hygiene. When Oil Pulling, use a good quality organic cold pressed oil (Sesame, Olive or Coconut Oil). We recommend you try Dr Tungs Oil Pulling Concentrate which is formulated with natural ingredients; wild harvested Ayurvedic botanical ingredients combined with organic Sesame Oil known for its subtle, penetrating, preventative and balancing effects – you only need a tablespoon of this as it is concentrated. Or if you want to shake it up a little, try another popular Oil Pulling product, Keeko Organic Oil  sachets that are pre packed and ready to open and use, formulated with Cold Pressed Coconut Oil and essential oils. These come in a variety of refreshing flavours; mint, citrus and vanilla cinnamon which will leave your mouth feeling refreshed and clean!

How Can Oil Pulling Benefit Me?

Anyone can benefit from Oil Pulling and if used as part of your daily oral hygiene routine you can take advantage of a range of extra health related benefits. It can help to: eliminate bad breath, heal bleeding gums and reduce inflammation, whiten teeth, soothes throat dryness, strengthens gums and boost your immune system.

How To Do It

It is a very simple process which is best done first thing in the morning, daily as part of your oral hygiene routine. All you need to do is take 1 – 2 tablespoons and swish the oil gently in your mouth for 10-15 minutes, be mindful that the swishing process involves pushing and pulling the oil around and through the teeth. It may seem like a long time but I actually really enjoy doing it in the morning as I use this quiet time (before my kids are up) to practise mindfulness and meditation – it’s my time! Once you are done rinse you mouth out with warm water (I find warm water works better) and spit it into the toilet so you do not clog up your sink.

I recommend you also pair the Oil Pulling with tongue cleaning to remove bacteria, food debris, fungi, toxins, and dead cells from the surface of your tongue. For more information on tongue scraping read here
