Hemp Oil - Top 5 Uses For Your Skin & Body

If you are not aware of Hemp Seed Oil and its benefits, then get comfy because I am about to share with you the beneficial, topical uses and remedies using just Hemp Oil for you whole body! Who would have thought, Hemp Oil…? I thought the exact the same thing as I was doing my product research a few months ago, let me tell you, I have never come across an oil like this one, its topical benefits range from head to toe and are very effective.

Before we begin down the education path let’s begin by clearing some misconceptions about Hemp Oil and Cannabis. Hemp Oil is the oil extracted from seeds of the Cannabis plant, so that is why, it is also called hemp seed oil, as it taken solely from the seeds. However, Hemp Oil does not contain THC (psychoactive agent), the chief psychoactive compound in Cannabis. The oil which contains THC is called hash oil, or cannabis oil. So, these two oils should not be confused.

Hemp seed oil has tremendous benefits for personal use however, currently in Australia and New Zealand it is legal for sale only for use in skin care products, which means it is for topical use only.

What are the Beneficial Properties of Hemp Seed Oil?

Often labelled as an ‘Elixir of Wellness’, Hemp Oil is very high in Omega-3,6 and 9 fatty acids which are essential for a healthy inside and out. These three fatty acids are known to be anti-inflammatory whilst also assisting in the healing process of the skin and beneficial for inflammatory skin conditions like acne and psoriasis, giving the skin a boost of hydration. Since the fatty acids in Hemp Oil are so close to our skin’s own, it is an excellent natural emollient and moisturiser that works in sync with our body to soothe and cleanse. So let’s break it down further, these fatty acids help to protect and improve moisture levels because it acts as a barrier to prevent moisture loss. Hemp Oil also benefits your skin by rejuvenating it leaving it softer, smoother and with greater elasticity. Yay!

Top 5 Topical Uses of Hemp Oil

Hemp Oil is a fantastic multi tasker that can be used for a range of skin, nail and hair hacks, which I might add does not cost the earth or your health and they are so simple you can do them with your eyes closed whilst drinking a Pina Colada!

To Cleanse the Face:

Hemp oil will dissolve the oils and waxes in makeup, especially in stubborn eye makeup. Gently rub a small amount of oil into the makeup and wipe with a cotton ball or a soft tissue. This face cleaner will gently lift the make-up off your face without stripping your skin and leaving it dry!

As a Face Moisturiser:

I know what you are thinking, oil on your face = oily skin but this is not the case. Hemp oil doesn’t look or feel oily and it is extremely non-comodogenic. In other words, it doesn’t clog pores. It is perfect if you have dry skin as it will deeply hydrate and regenerate your skin to help achieve soft, smooth and hydrated skin. After cleansing your skin pour a small amount of the oil in your palm and rub it between your hands and apply all over your face. If skin still feels dry or tight, you can use more. A little goes a long way!

To Control Acne, Eczema and Psoriasis:

Hemp Oil is rich in anti-inflammatory properties which can help to calm and alleviate areas of skin affected by acne, eczema and psoriasis. It is an effective treatment because it also hydrates the skin and brings more oxygen to it, which makes it a good treatment for eczema and dry, itchy skin. Apply hemp oil directly to areas of the skin affected.

As a Hair and Scalp Treatment:

This little wonder can also be used in the hair and on the scalp due to its Omega 3 and 6 properties which can help to promote hair growth, improve the texture of the hair, making it shinier and stronger. Hemp Oil can also help reduce dry flaking or dandruff by preventing water loss from the scalp, imparting moisture into the hair and scalp whilst deeply nourishing it as it penetrates the follicles.

When treating your hair and scalp, massage a small amount of Hemp Oil into the scalp in even parts then continue to massage the Hemp Oil all the way through your hair. Leave it in for an hour (insert sneaky ‘Me Time’ activity) and then wash out.

Strengthen Nail and Cuticles:

For weak and brittle nails and dry cuticles that need a bit of nourishment, massage a teaspoon sized amount of hemp oil directly onto nails and cuticles - great for toenails as well. You can even rub the oil onto your hands and feet and cover with socks or gloves and leave on overnight for a deep nourishing and moisturising treatment.
